STRATA PR SUPPORTS ATTEMPT AT COUNTY’S LARGEST YOGA CLASS IN AID OF CANCER RESEARCH UK
Local PR and marketing agency, Strata PR, is supporting the open air yogathon in Maidstone this summer in aid of Cancer Research UK. Billed as the county’s largest yoga class, the event will take place on 11 July in Mote Park and is designed to promote health and wellbeing.
Lynne Overett, co-founder of Strata PR, came up with the idea in order to combine two passions in life – yoga and raising money to help people affected by Cancer. Lynne, who is organising the event in conjunction with business partner Emma Batchelor from Strata PR and Denise Sheerin from Essential Yoga, is hoping that the event will raise in excess of £10,000 for the UK cancer charity.
“Unfortunately, like so many people, we have all been affected by cancer in some way. Emma, for example, lost her mother to Ovarian cancer nine years ago, and we really wanted to do something to raise money for the fantastic work that Cancer Research UK funds,” said Lynne. “As none of us likes to do things by halves, we thought why not do something we love on a grand scale!!”
The ‘Yogathon’ will take place in the beautiful setting of Mote Park, Maidstone, and will run for four hours, from 10am – 2pm. During that time, experienced yoga teachers from across the county will run four one-hour sessions so participants can join in for as long as they want. The event will culminate in a guided deep meditation session from 2pm – 2.30pm.
Rebecca Carey, Area Volunteer Manager for the Cancer Research UK in East Kent, said:
“This event is a unique way to raise money and awareness for Cancer Research UK. Yoga is a fantastic form of exercise that is great for body and mind. It also makes you more aware of your own body which is essential for early detection of the disease. Exercise is a key component to reducing your own risk and staying fit and healthy.”
“We have been overwhelmed by the response and generosity of those we have already approached about the event,” said Lynne. “We are extremely thankful for everyone’s contribution – such as Red Dragon IT, which has built the event website for free, Alan Firmin, which is providing a lorry for staging, and especially all the wonderful yoga teachers who are giving their time and their expertise to make the event successful.
“It doesn’t matter if you regularly practice yoga, or have never done it before, the sessions have been designed to accommodate people of all levels. We really hope that many people will join us for what promises to be a fantastic day aimed at celebrating life in a very beautiful part of the Park.
